SAINT PETERSBURG, Russia, 28 September 2016 – Ford Sollers demonstrates a school bus on the basis of the new Ford Transit in the exhibition forum taking place in Saint Petersburg from the 28th through the 30th of September in the frames of the 6th international conference “Road safety for the safety of life”, devoted to society’s role in increasing road safety.
By the end of October, the company will deliver a batch of 200 school buses based on the new Ford Transit to 24 Russian regions. Previously, Ford Sollers also submitted a batch of 61 school buses based on the new Ford Transit to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan before the beginning of the school year.
These special purpose versions are designed on the basis of the new Ford Transit with a long wheelbase; they feature rear-wheel drive and are powered by a Duratorq TDCi 2.2 liter diesel engine with 135 HP and 6-speed mechanical transmission. The school buses seat 22 passengers – 20 children and 2 supervisors.
Ford Transit based school buses are the ideal option for safe and comfortable transportation of children in urban settings and on interurban routes. The bus has been designed taking into account all the technical requirements and state standards (GOSTs) that guarantee the safe transport of children. Passenger seats are fitted with safety belts and comply with all comfort requirements. Storage racks provide a compact location for storing school supplies, backpacks and schoolbags.
A device which prevents the vehicle’s movement when the doors are open or not fully closed guarantees the safety of the children when are boarding or exiting the bus. The same function is performed by the light and sound warning system which notifies the driver of the open doors. A speed limiter set at 60 km/h prevents the driver from accelerating to an unacceptable speed, thereby ensuring the safety of the passengers while driving.
According to the state standards (GOSTs), the vehicles are painted yellow and feature the color graphic signs “Transportation of Children” and “CHILDREN”. Additionally, all vehicles are equipped with a tachograph allowing recording and storing of information about the driver’s actions.
All school buses based on the new Ford Transit are supplied with an air conditioning system, hydraulic assist steering wheel, fog headlights, an Antilock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Emergency Brake Assist, a driver-side airbag, and 8-way power seat adjustment.
Today, the full gamut of special versions of vehicles based on the Ford Transit, designed with the support of Ford Sollers R&D Center and tailored to the needs of Russian customers, boasts more than 25 versions of models of special and social vehicles. Currently, there are organized export deliveries of special versions based on the Ford Transit to the markets of Kazakhstan and Belarus. The company continues to expand its lineup of special versions of vehicles on the basis of the new Ford Transit and considers new possibilities for the export of special versions of its own design for the purpose of further development of its business.
