Ford SUV sales in Russia double in the first quarter of 2014

MOSCOW, Russia, April 8, 2014 — According to first quarter 2014 results, Ford Sollers doubled its sales in the SUV segment, compared with the same period of 2013.With sales of 5,700 units, SUVs, comprised approximately one-third of all Ford sales for the period in Russia. This strong performance shows that the company is on track with its plan to strengthen its brand position in the SUV segment.

During the first three months of 2014 Ford Kuga sales more than doubled, Ford Ranger sales were up by 78 per cent and Ford Explorer increased by 12 per cent, compared with the same period in 2013.

March was a record month for the Kuga, with the stylish SUV achieving its best-ever monthly sales with more than 1,800 units sold. Sales of the model were boosted by the introduction of the new front-wheel drive series available with a 2.5 litre gasoline engine.

With Explorer and Kuga in full production in Tatarstan, Ford Sollers has significantly expanded its SUV presence in Russia. Thanks to growing demand for SUVs, Ford Sollers sold almost 17,000 of these two models in 2013, tripling the figure achieved in 2012 in the SUV segment.

In 2013, the Russian automotive industry witnessed a further decline in market activity, together with a change in purchasing behavior, with significant shifts between market segments. This resulted in a decrease in the C-segment while the SUV segment showed significant growth. Following that trend, Ford Sollers is actively developing into new segments that offer potential for growth, such as the SUV market.
